Microsoft Goes After Android App Developers In India–Port Two Apps And Get A WP Device.

Microsoft’ Windows Phone is onto an aggressive start and while the company unveiled its Student program (read the details: Microsoft To Give Away Free Windows Phone To Students In India), Microsoft has now unveiled its developer freebies under “i unlock joy” program.

There are 3 parts to the program:iunlockjoy

1. As an app developer you can build 2 windows phone apps, submit by March 2012 and you get a Windows Phone device for free.

2. Womens’ special: All you need to do is build 1 windows phone apps and the first 100 female participants will get Windows Phone device.

3. The most interesting part – i.e. port 2 Android application to Windows Phone, submit by March 2012 and you get a Windows Phone device!

Android, as we all know has gained huge momentum in India ((read: Bravo! India Among The Top 3 Countries For Android App Ideas) and while Microsoft still makes money from each Android device sold, the key is to break the developer love from Android and port, these developers to Windows Phone ecosystem (and Nokia is playing a BIG role here).

Most importantly, this will also help Microsoft seed a lot of ‘even WP has this’ sort of app.

How do you think Android developers will react to this? What about iOS developers (MS doesn’t want to ‘touch’ them?)
