Microsoft Office Mobile is the office suite by Microsoft and has so far been available only for smartphones running Windows Phone. It was also present on Windows Mobile Professional, Classic, Standard editions and also had a Symbian version.
It consists of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. It is compatible with desktop versions of the Office suite.
The only app from the suite which has been officially supported by Microsoft for other platforms so far was OneNote Mobile which was released in App Store in early 2011 and saw an Android release the next year.
According to the app description in the App Store:
Microsoft Office Mobile is the official Office companion optimized for your iPhone. You can access, view and edit your Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint documents from virtually anywhere. Documents look like the originals, thanks to support for charts, animations, SmartArt graphics and shapes. When you make quick edits or add comments to a document, the formatting and content remain intact.
The key features of the app is that users will be able to access documents from virtually anywhere that are stored on SkyDrive, SkyDrive Pro, or SharePoint. Documents which you’ve recently viewed on your computer are instantly available on your phone.
The app optimizes Word, Excel and PowerPoint for the small screen and has full support for charts, animations, SmartArt Graphics, and shapes.
It has a Resume Reading feature which basically lets you resumes at the place where you left off reading on your device on another device.
It also supports offline editing.
The app at present is compatible with iPhone 4, 4S, and 5, iPod Touch 5th Generation and one will need an Office 365 subscription to use this app.
It was only a few month back that Microsoft announced the availability and pricing of Office 365 in India. Office 365 Home Premium version pricing starts from Rs 420 a month or Rs 4,199 a year. For SMBs the Office 365 was priced ranging from $6/user/month up to $ 20/user/month.
Google offers Google Drive, which syncs documents, presentations and sheets across the web and has mobile apps for Android and iOS devices. This is offered for free and has most the features of Microsoft Office.
