Microsoft Update For Windows 7/8.1 Brings Windows 10 Downloader

Microsoft has released an optional update for systems running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 that will notify users when the company’s upcoming OS is available for download.

Myce has found that Windows Update KB3035583 adds additional capabilities to Windows Update, and is offered as a recommended update since March 28.
Digging a bit deeper, the update adds a folder called ‘GWX’ to System32, with a file named ‘Download’ that contains the ‘GWXUXWorker.EXE’, which states “Download Windows 10?.
Code reveals that the feature will remain dormant at first, but as the Windows 10 release date nears it could throw up ad banners prompting users to download the new OS version.
While Microsoft hasn’t confirmed the exact launch date of Windows 10, it did say the new OS will be released this summer. However, for those looking to try Windows 10 early on, the company does have its Insider Program allowing users to play around with the preview OS.
