India has one of the highest deaf populations in the world with approximately 6% of the population suffering some kind of hearing loss. One person who heard this curse right is banker turned entrepreneur Dhruv Lakra.
Dhruv founded Mirakle Couriers, a Mumbai based courier company that employs only deaf people. They employ deaf male adults for the consignment delivery and deaf females for sorting. The service is currently available for Mumbai only.
Since deafness is an invisible disability, it never gets the society’s attention.
We are not a charity but a social business, where the social element is embedded in the commercial operations. Our corporate clients have shown their trust in our business and our cause by availing our services. Our list of clients includes Mahindra & Mahindra, The Aditya Birla Group, Victory Art Foundation, JSW Group, Indian Hotels Company, Godrej & Boyce and Essel Propack.
Social business like Mirakle which are focused on a particular segment of the society always thrive as the stake holders have a bonding because of their special ability. All the processes are designed keeping that in mind. If you compare this to other social businesses, that are not targeting a particular segment of society, always have dissatisfaction from within the team itself, as there are diverse fragmented constraints in defining the processes and business.
Hiring deaf people for the service does not make it cheap. Mirakle Courier is focusing on quality of service and charges the right price for it. They boast of a zero error service till date.
