The mobile advertisement race for the year 2013 has come to an end and Android seems to have won the race in the smartphone category, and amongst countries India has come out as the second largest market for mobile advertisements, in terms of monetization, according to a recent report.
In the smartphone OS race, Android has emerged as the leader for mobile phone ad traffic, with a 35.85% market share compared to iPhone’s 28.7%. But in the growing tablet space, Apple still maintains a significant lead, but Android is staking its claim, and tablet impressions are on the rise, the State of mobile Advertising report by opera said.
Amongst publisher categories social category took the lead in mobile ad traffic volume in terms of ad impressions, while Music, Video & Media sites and apps retained the top spot in terms of ad revenue generation. Business, Finance & Investing category is still produces the highest revenue per impression.
In terms of both traffic and monetization, the Music, Video & Media category continues to lead, as more and more users are using their mobile devices to stream music and watch online videos.
Amongst countries, the U.S. share of this traffic decreased from approximately 64% last year to the current 48.46%. However, in terms of monetization, the United States still drives over 70% of revenue, as it did last year.
Opera Mediaworks covers 14,000 sites and applications with 60 billion ad impressions per month.
