Opera released its monthly web report citing an important part of usage – the prime time for mobile browsing in every country was at night, from 8 p.m. to midnight. This holds true for all the countries in the top 10, with the real variation coming at other times of the day.

As per the report, 61.4 million people used Opera Mini in May (report link), 28.3 billion pages were served and 4.0 petabytes of operator data were compressed for Opera Mini users.

Mobile Internet – Data Points

• Indonesia passed Russia in May, becoming the new number-one country in terms of total Opera Mini users.
• The top 10 countries using Opera Mini in that region are Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Honduras.
• In May, Nigeria surged ahead of Ukraine, South Africa and the United States
• South Africa jumped ahead of the United States.

These reports are ofcourse a function of Opera’s distribution strategy in different geographines and hence should be taken with the related context.

As far as India is concerned, the top 10 visited sites on Mobile (in the month of May) are : google.com, orkut.com, facebook.com , youtube.com , yahoo.com , wikipedia.org , songs.pk, zedge.net, my.opera.com and getjar.com.

Opera looked at one 24-hour period (Saturday, May 22nd) to see how Opera Mini is used throughout the day in the top 10 countries and on an average, the peak timing is 8PM – midnight.
