With government desperately pushing Digital India campaign and strong penetration of mobile internet data in rural areas of country, India is expected to have 371 million users by June 2016; a 55% growth.
The rural mobile users have gone up by 93% from December 2014 to reach 87 million till December 2015. Urban growth too saw an incredible 77% year-on-year growth.
In a report furnished by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI)*, it is observed that 80% of urban crowd use mobile internet for online communication, 74% for social networking, 30% for entertainment and 13% for shopping. Whereas, in rural areas majority (52%) of people use mobile for entertainment.
Despite an increase in mobile spends by 64% in 2015, the average monthly bill has only gone down by 18% to Rs 360 in 2015.
