News Roundup: Mobile Number Portability Lands in Security Issue, Solar Rickshaws for CWG


The much delayed MNP has landed in a security issue, owing to ownership of JV, MNP Interconnection Solutions, one of the two companies selected by the Department of Telecom (DoT) to implement MNP.

Security concerns raised by the ministry of home affairs (MHA) have forced the FIPB to defer its own approval in February 2009 to MNP Interconnection Solutions Pvt Ltd, one of the two MNP service providers selected by the Department of Telecom (DoT). US-based Telecordia Technologies owns 74% of MNP Interconnection with Deepak Talwar Consultants holding 20%.
This is an extremely unusual situation that could even lead to the revocation of licence, involving a fresh tendering process.- more

1,000 solar rickshaws to ferry Commonwealth Games athletes

At least 1,000 solar rickshaws will be deployed to ferry over 7,000 athletes and their delegates during the Commonwealth Games later this year. A joint project between Delhi government and the central government-run Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), these zero carbon vehicles will help players commute inside the Games villages and reach sporting venues from Metro stations.  – more
