The BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has announced that 8 areas in Ahmedabad will be Wi-Fi zones. Soon, the project will be extended to 53 towns in Gujarat.
Our dream is that of a Digital India and a Digital Gujarat is a start in this direction. And today is the first step- of making Ahmedabad a Wi-Fi city.
The Wi-Fi zones will be implemented as part of the Government’s e-Nagar initiatives launched by Modi at a public function yesterday. The e-Nagar initiative will span of Geo-Spatial mapping (resource mapping for developmental plans), city civic centres, m-Governance, intelligent transit system with GPS, citizen service portals, self-help kiosk and call centres and wi-fi hotspots.
Here are some of the other key technology projects that were announced
- e-nagar web portal : Smart control system that enables connecting different locations and services
- e-Nagar mobile application: Offering citizen services through mobile.
- Tax Payment on Mobile in Surat
- e-ward: Initiated at Rajkot Municipal Corporation. Issuance of digital signatures, birth certificates
- BRTS bus arrival mapping
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled a 20 km free WiFi zone, at the e-Bihar summit in Patna last week. Last year Bangalore, launched free public WiFi hotspots located on Mahatma Gandhi Road (M.G Road) and Brigade Road.
