Myntra Mulling App-Only Model [Apps Are Driving 80% Of Sales]

Online fashion etailer Myntra might shut down its website by the end of this year and switch to an app only sales model. The reason, as mentioned by Mukesh Bansal, founder CEO at Myntra is that 80% of sales currently happen through mobile as purchase of fashion products is an impulsive decision.
Myntra will switch to an app-only model when 90% sales are processed through its mobile app, which the firm expects to happen by the end of this year. In case it does, Myntra would probably be the first in Indian eCommerce industry to stop sales through the website.
Over the last month, Myntra.com has seen around 40 million visits on the website through desktop and mobile browsers.

Myntra’s mobile app for android was launched in May last year, when it had announced 30 % of sales already happening on mobile. App store indicates that the app in downloaded almost 5 million times. This growth is exponential as it is within 8-10 months of its launch.
Myntra was acquired by Flipkart in May 2014 and collectively the two firms now clock sales over $ 1 Billion.
As of 2014, Flipkart topped among the most downloaded mobile app while Myntra was 7th on the list.
