The movie, Newton’s box office collection stands at Rs. 15 crores, while Judwa 2, which released a week later (and is very average / not even close to the original Judwa movie) has already touched 90 crores.
The box office collection of Newton Vs. Judwa 2 begs one question :
If you are into producing content (and also expect RoI), why bother producing great content?
To those who say ‘hey! Newton atleast made Rs. 15 crores’ – well, that thought process is itself worth a revisit.
Not ranting, but tell me how can this be fixed? Better distribution ? More aggressive marketing ? More ‘masala’ oriented stories (FYI: Dangal did a great balance of masala and social message – but that’s Aamir Khan).
Isn’t this same for media business as well? The lure of traffic / audience (which is gullible) and $$ has moved away the focus from product great content to mediocre/masala stories.
