A week back, we started a poll asking our readers “Is Nokia a ‘Cool’ Phone to Own these days?” and here is the verdict (after ~500 votes).
Of those who took the poll(*), 54% do not find Nokia a cool brand anymore – a sign that Nokia top brass should be aware of. On our partner site, Zipdial (missed call polling), the poll results are a bit mixed up – 54% agree that Nokia is a cool phone and 46% disagree.

There is no need to get into what’s the real percentage here (50/50?), but one thing from the dipstick survey is clear – Nokia is losing the brand value in India and its time Nokia spends effort in rebuilding its brand value.
Lately, Nokia is losing market share in India and the companies snatching away the market share are the local brands like Micromax. While one can blame it to the ‘use&throw/bad quality handsets’ from local players, a lot of execution by Nokia can be purely spelled as ‘super mediocre’.
The company is now taking microfinance route to sell mobile to Rural India, while its competitors are coming up with more ‘feature packed’ phone.

Qn: Is Nokia’s Rural Ambition Hurting the Urban Mindset, after all brand is all about perception?
* We agree with you that 500 is not a representative sample to go with and my reply to that would be that we reach out to India’s influencer crowd that their sentiments drive a lot of such opinion around a brand.
