The Retailers Association of India has dragged the Central Government to court demanding level playing field in FDI norms vis-a-vis ecommerce players.
Retailers Association of India, which represents top retailers such as Future Group, Shoppers Stop and Reliance Retail has filed a case in the Delhi High Court against the Union government with regard to the FDI norms.
The offline retailers allegedly accused ecommerce giants for disrupting and upsetting their business model.
With billions of dollars from global investors to back the operations, the ecommerce giants are offering unmatched discounts to the buyers which directly impact the sales of offline retailers.
Though FDI is not allowed in ecommerce companies, the law still allows foreign companies to use their platforms as a marketplace to sell the products. The Retailers Association alleges that it is a convenient method of saying they are marketplaces, but still enjoy FDI surpassing the level playing field.
