Chinese smartphone startup OnePlus has revealed that it will launch the OnePlus 2 on July 27 and will be live streaming the launch event in VR for anyone around the world to see.
“In our industry, product launches tend to be the same. An auditorium, a keynote, and a seated audience,” said OnePlus in a blog post. The company has therefore opted for a completely VR experience to let fans get a first person view of the ‘2’.
Since the launch will be streamed in VR, it’s a given that viewers have to have VR headsets. While anyone with the Google Cardboard for their device will be able to view the launch, OnePlus has created its own version of Cardboard for the One.
The OnePlus Cardboard will be available for purchase soon, but we’re not sure if it’ll make its way to India. In any case, there are several Google Cardboard look alikes you can pick up for not much money, so don’t fret it.
The VR stream for the OnePlus 2 launch will start at 7:00pm PT on July 27, which translates to 7:30 am July 28 for us folks in India.
