Online is only 1.6% of retail sales in India: World Bank India, online sales as a percentage of total retail sales were only 1.6%, versus over 15% for China and around 14% globally.

Given that only a small share of firms has access to broadband connections and even fewer transact online, there is enormous room for e-commerce to grow in the region, mentions World bank in a report titled “Unleasing E-commerce for South Asia integration”.
