Test preparation platform, OnlineTyari has concluded $5mn 5 crores round from a slew of marquee global Angel and VC investors including 500 Startups, Mohandas Pai, Tandem Capital, Vikram Chachra of Eight Capital and Aloke Bajpai, Co-founder & CEO of IxIgo. The funds will be used to further strengthen the technology and for expansion.

OnlineTyari, through its multilingual app and website, allows people to prepare for job-oriented tests including Civil Services, Banking Services, UPSC, GATE and State Government jobs. People buy question banks, online tests, articles and e-books on the platform and also collate notes to prepare for competitive examination.

Mr Mohandas Pai, Chairman, Manipal Global Education and ex-CFO, Infosys, says, “Online education is helping our students and young professionals participate and excel in the knowledge-driven economy. A vital component of this wave of access to information is to ensure that our languages are respected and catered to with considered attention. Students familiar with Indian languages must not feel marginalized, and it is imperative that they have access to the highest quality content in any language they choose. This is why I believe OnlineTyari is a platform with a purpose. With its mission to deliver the highest quality content for competitive exams in Indian languages, they will provide a core value proposition that is fundamental to empowering our youth to build meaningful careers. With 300 million English-speaking Indians, and double that number with a regional language, the demand for educational content across the language spectrum is tremendous. OnlineTyari is already making a powerful impact with their immediate focus on the over 10 million Indians writing entrance exams for government jobs. With their continued focus on multilingual quality content, they reach every Indian student; and that is a unique and valuable mission.”

Over one crore people appear for entrance exams for government jobs every year, often with little access to good quality education content in their native language. OnlineTyari bridges this digital divide by making education content available on the mobile phone of every person across India.

The multilingual platform is optimised for use on low end smartphones and already has deep penetration in vernacular user base. The app has more than 2 million installs.
