Here is a quick recap of events in the Indian Mobile/Digital and consumer industry:
Indians are eating 3 million pizzas a month
The Indian consumerism is on the rise – so is the amount of junk food that Indians are enjoying. Blame it on the easy availability of disposable money or huge spending spree, I am surprised to see that Indians are having 3 million pizzas a month! What’s more surprising is the forecasted data – the number is supposed to double in the next 4 years.
According to industry data, of the total branded quick service restaurant market of over Rs 1,200 crore, the pizza chains contribute around 50 per cent of the sales.
OnMobile Acquires French VAS Company Voxmobili For $35 Million
India’s largest value added services company OnMobile is becoming even bigger. The Bangalore-based company has acquired 100 per cent stake in Voxmobili SA, a French company that provides software services to telecom companies, for €25.83 million or $35.12 million (or Rs 143.51 crore). The acquisition is made by OnMobile Asia Pacific Pvt Ltd, an offshoot of Infosys Technologies, and one of the pioneers of VAS solutions to Indian telcos.
Orkut is now available in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu
In order to change to the language of your choice, go to settings and choose your preferred language. This is a significant development for Google, as I am sure they will add more transliteration capabilities over the next few months. Product like Orkut are a good testing ground before Google integrates transliteration in its office apps suite (and gain a very very significant share of the local language market and kick Microsoft where it hurts the most).
