Orkut has launched Video chat that enables one to chat with their friends (download the plugin).

When you find a friend you want to chat with, open a chat window and click on the "Start video chat" link in the "Actions" menu. If you want to get a better view of your friend, you can pop out your chat window and increase the size all the way up to full-screen. (more at Orkut blog)

Reliance to ink m-commerce deal with Atom Technologies

As per BS, Reliance is in advance talks with Atom Technologies (part of FTIL, Financial Technologies India Ltd ) for a mobile commerce agreement.

Atom Technologies, which has over 100 merchants registered for m-commerce transactions will offer RCom multiple banks (Indian and foreign) and merchants on a common platform, thereby allowing its subscribers to make payments across all merchant bases.

20 Million Broadband subscribers by 2014 (?)

While Indian government was targeting 2010 to achieve 20 million broadband user base, this target may only be achieved by 2014, as per CII. (source)

Mobile Ad Engagement among youth in India

As per InMobi’s recent survey (conducted at IIT Mumbai), youth have a strong ad engagement on mobile

  • 57% of respondents browse the internet on their mobile phones
  • 33% who surf the Internet through their mobile phones engage with brands that advertise
  • Of whose who engaged with the ads, they were most likely to visit the ad’s website (72.5%) but also went so far as to call the company (10%), or buy the product (17.5%).
