AR Drone, the quadricopter that can fly 162 feet high and record HD Videos launched in India

AR Drone, the smartphone controlled quadricopter which can fly in the sky at a height of up to 162 feet and record High Definition videos or relay it back to your device has been launched in India. You must have seen something similar to this in the Bollywood flick Three Idiots. The device is being sold by life style electronics retailer Flipper at Rs 31,990.

The radio controlled drone manufactured by French company Parrot works with Apple and Android devices and there are apps that work on Samsung’s BADA and Symbian as well. It flies for about 25 minutes before it needs to be charged again. The drone which runs on an ARM9 processor was first introduced in at the Consumer Electronics Show two years ago.

The quadricopter is hailed as one of the ultimate boytoys and it uses a “mix of captors, wide-angle camera, high-speed camera and MEMS (micro electro mechanical systems), accelerometer, gyro sensors, and ultrasound sensor,” with an onboard computer to make for a smooth flying experience.

The device is heavily used to play Augmented reality abroad. It was launched by former Kingfisher model Poonam Pandey whose film debut is just round the corner.’s founder Sumit Suneja said in  a statement that the company expects to sell a minimum on 10,000 Drones in the next six months across Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, and Pune among other metropolitan cities.
