Government has now made it easy for startups to register for patents by lowering the costs and speeding up the process.
Startups from all over the world can now register in India under a ‘tatkal’ option and will receive the patent in two and a half years and from March 2018, they will receive it in one and a half years.
Startups have been qualified as “individual persons” and not companies, so the application fee will be Rs 8,000 instead of Rs 60,000. The Government will now also allow startups to withdraw patent application without any fee and will also provide refunds in specific cases.
Although no exact time limit has been specified by the Government, they have put a limit on adjournments in courts to two times with a maximum period of 30 days each.
