One97 Communications, which owns payment app Paytm will be entering the mobile retail arena according to reports. The company will be launching an m-commerce marketplace in coordination with partner merchants. Users can soon buy products from the marketplace using the company’s payment app – Paytm.
One97 has partnered with over 1,000 merchants to launch the m-commerce platform, and will launch it by the end of January. All the order logistics and delivery will be taken care of by the retailers themselves said One97 co-founder Vijay Shekar Sharma to the Economic Times.
The company which claims to have completed 3 lakh orders on New Year’s eve alone from their mobile app Paytm. Clocking 4 million orders a month the company believes that the “market is ready to take a leap into mobile shopping” according to the report.
Users can shop from various categories of products from apparel, home decor and accessories via Paytm and also checkout and pay using the app.
Paytm is not the first to foray into the m-commerce marketplace space. Online retailers like Amazon, Flipkart, Homeshop18 and eBay whose app allows users to browse through over 400,000 of its listings on mobile as an increasing number of retailers bet on the mobile app market.
