Phone retailers urge government to control deep discounting by etailers

The All India Mobile Retail Association (AIMRA) has urged the government bodies to control the practice of deep discounting by major online stores.

According to the body, e-commerce stores build up huge stocks of devices as a result of exclusive tie-ups with smartphone brands. This enables them to offer predatory pricing thus killing small offline retailers. As per the association, over 30,000 mobile shops have shut down in the last year.

The association has urged the government to check this process so that everyone gets equal opportunities. Earlier a trader’s union asked for a ban on Flipkart and Amazon’s annual festive sales.
