A survey of 9,100+ employees was conducted on employee burnout and here are some interesting results.

  • 91% employees believe that they have a burnout problem.
  • “Poor leadership and unclear direction” was top reason for burnout with 22.9%.

  • Among Microsoft employees, “insufficient reward” was the top reason for burnout, with 20.7%.


Poor leadership and unclear direction was top reason for burnout. Among the companies that ranked highest for this option, eBay came in first followed by Salesforce and Intel.

The top three reasons for burnout at Microsoft and Amazon are poor leadership, overwork, and insufficient rewards.
