Online service for scheduling appointment with doctors, Practo has secured INR 25 crores (~$4.6mn) in Series A funding from Sequoia Capital. Practo was started in 2009 and its primary product, Practo Ray has over 10 000 doctors across India using it for scheduling appointments.
Launched in 2009, Practo Ray provides automated appointment scheduling, storage of healthcare records including X-rays, files, prescriptions and billing. Practo’s platform currently manages 10,000 appointments per day with 8,000 doctors at 5,000 dental, wellness and other healthcare centers across India.
With this round of financing, Practo plans to expand its current 80-member team to around 350 in the next two years and also aims to launch their various products globally.
Currently, Practo (part of Morpheus accelerator program) manages 10,000 appointments/day and charges doctors on appointment basis (Rs. 699 for 200 appointments/month, Rs. 999 for 500 appointments/month) and from what it seems, the company has focused mainly on dentists as opposed to other streams.
The company has also launched its API for partners to launch other online services that doctors and clinics can use. The first application built on the Practo API is the Practo Virtual Receptionist that is already been bought by over 100 clients, allows the doctors to have a single virtual phone number, available 24×7 that can seamlessly locate the doctor at their multiple clinics, accept voice mail messages, make phone-based appointments and integrates with patient records and Practo’s scheduling systems.
