Homegrown phonemaker Micromax has started taking pre orders for its latest smartphone, the Canvas 4. But, it isn’t telling you what the phone is packing yet.
While the Canvas 4 A210 has been teased multiple times on TV during the Champions trophy and on social networks, the company hasn’t shared any of the phones specifications. There aren’t any details on the final pricing either.
The company has begun taking pre-orders on its website from today and is taking a booking amount of Rs 5,000. Micromax says they will reveal all the details of the phone in Delhi on July 8. We wonder if people are going to be willing to pay so much for a phone whose final specifications are not known. It wouldn’t be surprising if Micromax goes on to boast about pre-order numbers at the big reveal but it will be interesting to see how many of these get converted into actual orders.
The company does say that users will then have the option to either pay the remaining amount and buy the phone or cancel the order to get the refund of their advance payment before July 15th, failing which the order gets cancelled and the money gets returned. Full terms here.
The phone is expected to start shipping on July 10th and will be delivered within 7 working days.
On the pre-order site, Micromax has put up a set of photos of the Canvas 4, which confirm it won’t have a physical home button and will sport a 13-megapixel camera. It does look very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4. The other features that are expected in the phone are a full HD 1080p display, a quad-core processor and Android Jelly Bean 4.2.
In the teaser pictures online, Micromax has also been hinting at a new gesture-based UI that won’t require the user to touch the display to unlock the phone. Considering that not many people actually use Face Unlock found on some Android phones we are hoping this is not the only selling point of the phone.
Micromax is also having a lucky draw where 10 lucky customers who pre-book the Canvas 4 before July 6 will get a chance to attend the launch of the Canvas 4 in Delhi and can pay the full amount and be among the first to get the device. Micromax will not pay for the travel or stay of the selected customers, so unless you live around Delhi this is not really going to be worth it.
The previous Canvas phones especially the Canvas 2 and Canvas HD have propelled the Indian manufacturer to number 2 in the smartphone market in India according to IDC. Even though Micromax took pre-orders for the Canvas HD on Snapdeal in February, it faced issues and was not able to ship most phones till the end of March.
You can pre-book the Canvas 4 here, but considering all the facts we would say hold on to your wallet till July 8.
