Gurgaon based and German incubator Rocket Internet backed PrintVenue calls itself the one-stop shop for all your printing needs. And why not? When you can have all your printing jobs done at the click of a few buttons why spend money and effort running around. The website that started less than a week back has already started rolling in three digit orders.
Started by Saurabh Kochar an ex- McKinsey & Company, PrintVenue is primarily focussing on the SMB segment in the country. “The concept is very simple! We have millions of small
businesses in India which want good quality products but do not have access to them at affordable pricing. Our motto is to provide great quality contemporary products to these businesses through an efficient channel at affordable price”, he says. Infact this is the main reason why he decided to enter into digital online printing. The team conducted a market research on the same and realised that the printing market is highly unorganised and small businesses are always at a loss for good products at cost effective prices.
So how does PrintVenue work? All you need to do is to register on the site, choose from around 2000 different designs of business cards, card holders, stamps, notepad’s and letter heads, depending on your need; and customise the same in minutes. In case your design is already ready just send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with details and CDR of artwork, make a payment and you’re done. In the backend PrintVenue has operations that take advantage of the economies of scale to print at impeccable quality but low cost. And you are assured to receive your order in 4 working days across 40 major cities in the country. However, in case your demand exceeds 500 units of a particular product the PrintVenue team gets back to you with customized rates and delivery timeline.
As a part of its launch the website is offering its customers print and delivery of 100 visiting cards for absolutely free of cost. We got a chance to ask a few rapid fire questions to the team (PV) and here is what they said.
Pi: When was the website launched and how long did it take from inception to execution?
PV: We launched the website on Tuesday, 3rd July 2012. And it took about a month to bring up the website in its current form.
Pi: What are the categories you serve as of now?
PV: We currently offer Business cards, Letterheads, notepads, card holders and stamps. We are going to launch flyers in a weeks’ time and invitation cards in about two weeks from now.
Pi: How do you plan to generate revenue from the model?
PV: We have a pay per use model wherein you pay according to the services used.
Pi: How is PrintVenue being publicized and marketed?
PV: We are publicizing and marketing the product via online marketing and social media, and will continue to do that for sometime now.
Pi: Where do we see PrintVenue in the next few years?
PV: We have about 20 million MSMEs in India – Anyone can do the maths! Also since there is no structured online printing competition in India the market is still wide open.
There are a few other players (Printo) etc that have taken a consumer + B2B approach to printing, but we certainly hope that RocketInternet is sharing its shipping & delivery infrastructure across all the portfolio companies.
