RBI: 76% of Rs 2,000 banknotes have returned to banking system

  • RBI declared a return of Rs 2.72 lakh crore, 76% of Rs 2,000 banknotes in circulation, to banks.
  • The total value of such notes decreased from Rs 3.62 lakh crore on March 31, 2023, to Rs 3.56 lakh crore by May 19, 2023.
  • Data shows Rs 2,000 banknotes worth Rs 2.72 lakh crore returned to the system post May 19 announcement.
