Read This Before You Buy a Micromax Tablet

Home grown mobile brand Micromax has drawn a lot of attention for its low cost devices. For the past 1 year the brand is working hard on its branding and releasing devices with features that look great on the spec sheet, hence drawing eyeballs. The manufacturer was tagged as “Chinese mobile” initially but now it has been able to find its way up somewhere just below global brands like Nokia and Samsung, and way above the rest of the Chinese brands.

The brand has made attempts to enter the tablets market as well with its Funbook series. Here again the low cost proposition is what made sales happen. Micromax has been one of the few known options for consumers looking to own a tablet at a cost lower than a decent smartphone. Though most Micromax tablets haven’t been any more than just a large screen hardware running Android OS.

  • Micromax has manufactured only 7 inch tablets, with 2 exceptions. The Funbook Pro which is of 10.1 inches and the newly launched Canvas Tab which is an 8 inch device.
  • All Micromax tablets have been low on storage capacity. Though the Canvas Tab has a usable storage space of about 11GB.

So which Micromax tablet should you buy?

Low budget: The Micromax Funbook P255 is a great value given that it’s only priced at about Rs.4,000. Though the features that even this tablet sports accounts for a below decent experience. The tablets has a very low screen resolution and a usable storage of just over 1GB, though expandable upto 32GB. If you must own a tablet at a sub Rs.5K budget this is your best bet.

Open Budget: Banking on the success of the Canvas series of mobiles, Micromax has recently launched a tablet named Micromax Canvas Tab P650. Given what Micromax has been producing until now, this tablet would be considered high end. This 8 inch tablet has a multi-touch screen with a high resolution screen that offers crisp display. The Canvas Tab sports a 1.2Ghz Quad core processor with 1GB of RAM, a 5MP camera, usable storage of about 11GB and calling facility. All of this makes up for a good experience. At a price point of about Rs.14,700, this tablet is a great buy.
