People often take offense at things that aren’t intended to give offense. An example is hearing the word “no” after they ask for someone’s help.
Reasons we don’t say NO:
- We want to avoid disappointing people.
- We want to avoid seeming selfish.
- We desire to help others.
- We struggle with low self-esteem.
- We want others to like us.
- We want to appear valuable.
- We fear missing out on opportunities.
- We succumb to emotional bullying.
- We’re averse to conflict.
