Resumonk – A Resume Builder that should have existed earlier

Creating resume isn’t so easy and surprisingly, there have been very few attempts at solving this problem. Resumonk is an interesting product that does just one thing – helps you create a professional looking resume in minutes. The product is intuitive and handles the job of formatting and converting your resume into pdf format also.

Features offered by Resumonk (a student startup) includes:

  • Professional, beautiful and modern resume templates.
  • Easily share your resume online or download it as PDF.
  • Create and manage multiple resumes effortlessly.
  • One-click LinkedIn import.
  • Complete date-wise and location-wise analytics.

The product also gives detailed analytics (date-wise/location-wise) of one’s resume.

While the product is nicely designed, the resume creation process is very lengthy and you will have to go PRO ($9.99, one time fee) to import your LinkedIn profile. To me, this isn’t the right pricing model, as LinkedIn itself offers a resume builder product, which is actually a great tool to quickly create a professional looking resume from one’s LinkedIn profile (also downloadable as PDF etc, i.e. same set of functionalities as Resumonk).

So if a product is charging $9.99 for a feature which is available for free on the original platform itself, the charm is lost. Infact, Resumonk has other great offerings – like tracking resume analytics which makes it much more interesting and the team should revisit the premium plan, before being compared with LinkedIn’s resume builder service.

As of writing this, product has few jagged edges (‘View your resume online/Save as PDF’ didn’t really work), but at the core, Resumonk does solve a real pain and is a useful tool.

Do give Resumonk a spin and share your comments. What’s your take on the pricing model? Do you think it’s a good idea to start monetizing from day 1 vs. waiting for adoption and go freemium (with new features)?

What do you think?
