India’s Answer to Visa & Mastercard RuPay to Launch Variant for Rail Ticket Booking on IRCTC

Those looking to book tickets on IRCTC will soon be able to access the RuPay debit card as a mode of payment. The IRCTC will add a RuPay variant to help book tickets soon.

At an event in Delhi, President Pranab Mukherjee dedicated RuPay to the nation. Created by the National Payments Corporation of India (NCPI), the RuPay card is India’s answer to Mastercard and Visa.

RuPay cards are essentially card payment services facility like a Visa or Mastercard debit card. RuPay provides lower transaction costs, quicker clearing costs and interoperability among payment channels among other features.

The RuPay card card was created to improve the payments processing system across the country. Its aim is to reduce dependence on international card schemes.

The RuPay card is currently accepted at over 1.6K ATMs, 95% PoS terminals and has even become a mode of payment for  e-commerce companies.

The RuPay card is backed by a host of Indian banks and has already been issued by over 150 cooperative and Regional Rural Banks in the country.
