Real-time Management of order fulfillment processes has always been one of the key challenges for etailers in India. Handling procurement, goods receipt, quality assurance, pick and pack, invoicing, shipping, comprehensive return/replacements handling and inventory play critical role in making a successful ecommerce venture.
NCR based startup, Unicommerce has launched its SAAS based warehouse management product, Uniware to cater to the needs of ecommerce companies, grappling with order fulfillment processes and looking for cost effective and speedy solution.
In order to maintain exact and complete information of every single product in warehouse, Uniware assigns unique serial number to every unit that enables etailers to track various details such as vendor, purchase date, product expiry and unit specification. Unicommerce is founded by Ankit Purthi, Vibhu Garg and Karun Singla batch mates with IIT & IIM background and having experience in technology, finance and product management.
Uniware pricing model works on order basis and it charges anywhere between INR 2 to 6 on every processed order and it can be deployed within 5-8 days time frame. To understand more about Unicommerce’s vision, offerings and future plans, Pluggd.in interacted with team Unicommerce. Below are the excerpts of the interaction.
Pi- What led to the inception of Unicommerce and currently how many ecommerce companies are using Unicommerce’s solution?
Team UC– Biggest challenge faced by the ecommerce companies is timely order fulfillment which is driven by efficient supply chain management. Technology is the key enabler to successful, speedy and error-free operations and Unicommerce is started with the focus of using technology to improve eCommerce supply chain.
At Unicommerce we have developed our first product Uniware (Warehouse Management System) to cater to warehousing needs of ecommerce companies. Uniware is highly customizable, scalable and easy-to-use solution distributed in accordance with SaaS. We are presently working with 10+ ecommerce in different business verticals like apparels, jewellery, grocery or mix of all.
Pi- What sort of advantages Unicommerce services provide to etailers in managing their end to end order fulfilment process?
Team UC: With Uniware etailers can manage end to end processes like procurement, goods receipt, quality assurances, pick and pack, invoicing, shipping, comprehensive return/replacements handling and inventory.
In Uniware we have built features to address the operational issues faced by most of etailers. For instance:
Inventory serialization (Bar-coding) – In Uniware we provide support for assigning unique serial number to every unit even of the same product. This enables us to capture various details like vendor, purchase date, product expiry, sent-to customer and unit specific information like IMEI (mobiles) which we believe is essential to control several common issues like wrong product shipments, ensuring inventory FIFO, pilferage, inventory ageing and timely returns to vendor. This feature has helped us deliver flawless inventory management and eliminate some of the problems completely. We have shipped more than a million shipments across all clients and yet to see our first incorrect shipment.
Effective shipping – Uniware provides maximum degree of configuration possible in choosing the right shipping provider. Allocation rules can be configured based on item characteristics like Fragile, Liquid… or shipment value or geographical location etc. Uniware has pre-integrated 10+ couriers, so clients can go-live with any new courier in no time. Uniware has inbuilt tracking and smart courier allocation engine which suggests the best courier for that pincode/area based on historical performance. Huge cost savings can be done by shipping products together – Uniware creates shipments for an order based on different parameters like product dimensions, product attributes (Fragile/Inflammable), packaging box sizes, inventory availability and many more.
Reporting and alerts – Administrators can keep a close-eye on warehouse operations through real time dashboards and are proactively notified by Uniware in case of any exceptions like Product-expiry, long pending orders etc.
Pi- What has been the traction so far? Could you share a few use cases against which the product is being used?
Team UC– The response has been very positive so far, we started reaching out to clients in May’ 2012 and are already working with some of biggest names in ecommerce like Snapdeal, Jabong. We have clients in different verticals like Grocery – Mygrahak, Jewellery – Bluestone, Apparels – DoneByNone and Highstreetlabels. After migration to Uniware, some of our clients have reported 75% reduction in shelf to dispatch time and significant reduction in expenses on man power.
Pi- Apart from cost benefit, how does a SaaS product benefit etailers?.
Team UC– The biggest benefit of Uniware is shorter deployment time of less than a week as compared to 9-12 months for any other solutions. By getting Uniware as SaaS, etailers can enjoy the effortless weekly upgrades and 99% uptime SLA. Etailers can also save on technology costs as Uniware is already integrated with widely used platforms like magento, prestashop etc.
Pi- Are you also helping ecomm companies with better negotiation of deals with vendors? By providing end to end buying . Do you have your own vendor network?
Team UC – We are closely working with few vendors on a different technology product which will address issues of inventory syncing and payment reconciliations with multiple ecommerce.
Pi- What about reverse logistics? Are you helping etailers to manage that?
Team UC- Uniware has comprehensive returns module, wherein etailers can manage complete lifecycle of reshipments and replacements.
Pi- What is Unicommerce’s funding status, future strategies and plans?
Team UC– Unicommerce was bootstrapped by funds from family and friends and is now a cash flow positive company, we are looking to expand our team and develop more technology products catering to the improvement of supply chain.
