With the launch of one of the most anticipated phones of the year just a few days away, the rumors and leaks are flying fast. To add to the hype Samsung is teasing the public by releasing the second teaser video and also a partial image. Samsung’s new flagship phone, the Galaxy S4, will be unveiled at a big press event in New York on March 14.
Here are the things you must know in the lead up to the big day.
Samsung Galaxy S4 partially revealed in new official photo
Samsung tweeted a picture from its official US Twitter account of a very dark image, depicting only the upper left corner of what appears to be a smartphone with the familiar Samsung brand at the top. This is the first image that gives a clear indication of what the S4 is going to look like. It looks like Samsung is sticking with its design and we are not going to see something radically different in this department.
Samsung releases second teaser video
Samsung also released the second teaser video for the phone and event. The video picks up where the last one left off. The young boy, Jeremy Maxwell, has the phone in his possession, but Samsung has told him he cannot show it to anyone or take it out of the box. Jeremy does say in the video that it’s his “favorite color,” so we can imply that the phone will come in a selection of colors. The Galaxy S3 comes in two colors – pebble blue and marble white.
A series of photos recently leaked on a Chinese forum claiming to show the upcoming Galaxy S4 smartphone. The images reveal a handset that looks similar to the company’s other popular Android handsets though with a slimmer profile and a larger display. The phone appears to be coated with a textured plastic on the front and back. You can check out all the leaked images here.
The specs that have been making the rounds on the internet are numerous. But we expect the Samsung Galaxy S4 to come with a 4.99-inch Super AMOLED 1080p display. The phone will have resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 with 440 pixels per inch (PPI). The phone will definitely be running on Android 4.2 and you can expect a heavy dose of Samsung’s UI TouchWiz on top of it. The phone will be powerful an Exynos 5 Octa eight-core processor that may be clocked at 1.8 Ghz. The phone will have a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 2.2- megapixel front camera. The Galaxy S4 will also have support for wireless charging, that we have seen in devices like the Lumia 920 and Nexus 4
One of the biggest complaints with the S3 and the Note II was that Samsung chose plastic. From the leaks so far, it looks like Samsung is sticking with the plastic and it won’t look premium like the HTC One or the iPhone 5. This could be the biggest dampener for what could otherwise be a great phone.
The Galaxy S4 is expected to come with a whole lot of software enhancements. New York Times reports that the phone will come with eye-tracking technology will let you change pages with just your eyes. This means when you reach the bottom of a page the software will automatically load up additional content. Also, if you are viewing a video, it will pause when you look away. This looks like an addition to a feature already present on the S3 where the screen does not go off if you are looking at it.
