About Scott Cook
Born and raised in a suburb of LA after his parents emigrated from Wisconsin. Nerdy as a youth…in high school programmed the school district’s one computer. Attended USC then HBS.
Started career at P&G in Cincinnati in brand management. Met future wife Signe Ostby at P&G when seeking advice from other brand groups. Subsequent marriage “insourced” limitless supply of advice.
Still nerdy as an adult…during stint at Bain & Co, started a software project to solve wife’s hassles with doing the family finances. That grew into Quicken and Intuit was born 30 years ago. Quite a struggle in early years. VCs refused to invest…business failed to get momentum…was whisker away from failing twice. Things eventually improved. Still at Intuit. Have learned to love tax season. Ran company for 11 years through IPO. Since then have hired and promoted more talented leaders to be CEO…whose curse is the founder who won’t go away.
In love with Signe for 36 years; married for 33 years. Live in Woodside, CA. Kids mostly grown now.
On the boards of P&G, eBay, Intuit, and HBS. Funds social entrepreneurs catalyzing global leaps in education and medical research. Regular cyclist; rides with the aptly named “Over the Hill Gang”. Thankful for parabolic skis and ultralight backpacking gear. Enjoys strange travel with friends…recently Myanmar, Laos, Cuba, and hiking between Japanese inns.
