Facebook has now become the platform where everyone shares everything. Be it status updates, photos and events. Now you can add PowerPoint presentations to that list.
Chandigarh based authorSTREAM, which is a platform for sharing PowerPoint presentations on the Internet, has released an improved Facebook app which allows users to upload and share PowerPoint presentations from within Facebook and post them instantly on their Wall.
authorSTREAM lets users play their presentations on Facebook, retaining all the multimedia effects of the a presentation, including animations, music, narration and in-slide videos.
While there are others like Slideshare that allows one to share presentations on Facebook, authorSTREAM is the only one that allows you upload from within the Facebook app itself. Other services require you to visit the website and share from there.
The app also has an option to sync Facebook and authorSTREAM accounts, so that presentations uploaded on one platform get immediately uploaded on the other. This will definitely expand the reach and viewership of your presentation, while also saving upload time.
When we tried authorSTREAM we found it to function extremely well. We did not have to sign up for a separate account and it used our Facebook credentials. We managed to upload our PPT without any difficulty, though we found out that the size of the presentation had to be below 100 MB. After that we could easily share it on our Wall.
Other features of the Facebook app allows you to favorite presentations, view friends’ favorite presentations, view the most viewed presentations as well as view the presentations in full screen.
Harman Singh, CEO of authorSTREAM says, “People, who love spending time on Facebook to connect with friends, will benefit from our improved Facebook app. Until now, PowerPoint presentations have been difficult to upload and share. With this app, it is easy.”
authorStream claims to be the second largest slide sharing platform, with more than 4 million registered users and 5 million monthly visitors. The Facebook app already has over a million users and with the increased functionality authorStream hopes to gain more users.
The added benefit of presentations on Facebook is that they will now be available for comments, likes and sharing by Facebook friends.
authorSTREAM was started in 2007, and so far gave members access to thousands of presentations on a variety of subjects. The presentations could already be embedded in blogs or converted to videos and shared on YouTube.
A few months back we had reported that authorSTREAM would be merging with online Education Platform WizIQ, which had secures $4 million in a Series B investment led by Kaizen along with Bertelsmann.
