Today, Snapdeal announced acquisition of eSportsBuy, a Delhi based startup that sells fitness and sports products online. Here is a brief QnA with Kunal Bahl, Founder and CEO of Snapdeal on eSportsBuy acquisition
We are building the largest assortment of branded products and services in India. We have built a strong assortment and category leadership in various lifestyle categories such as watches, sunglasses, perfumes, jewellery, personal care, cosmetics, women’s apparel, among others. Our goal is to continue to building out leadership in new categories. Sports is an interesting category – large space ($2.7 bn in 2014), highly fragmented offline retail distribution, greater trend towards consumers playing various sports and general fitness @home. With our thick demand pipe and 15 million registered members with whom we communicate every day, we have seen that with every category we launch, we are quickly gaining market share and leadership. If we exclude media products, which we are currently not carrying, we are probably selling more products than any e-commerce company in India.
2. What about Snapdeal’s ecommerce plans? Do you plan to have own logistics/warehouse in place?
We continue to make a lot of investment in our technology, especially given we have first focused on lifestyle categories which are quite hard compared to media products. Our goal is to be as lean as possible in delivering a great customer experience. The demand is certainly there big time and we need to ensure we intelligently build the backend that ensures we continue to be a sustainable, high growth business.
