Snapdeal has got into a bit of a tussle with the Maharashtra Food & Drug Administration over the issue of selling prescription drugs such as Viagra and Ascoril on its website.
The Maharashtra FDA acted on a tip off and ordered the search of Snapdeal’s Mumbai office, for selling drugs to patients and customers without proper prescription.
The e-commerce company has been asked to furnish details of retailers and documentation, while the body is said to be investigating other e-commerce companies for the same.
Snapdeal said that it periodically educates sellers on fair and safe sale of goods online, however at times sellers do end up listing products they’re not supposed to.
It added that upon receiving information about listing of such products, it does take them down immediately from its site, and in this case too did the same.
