IT employees get govt nod to set up trade union in Karnataka [Good or Bad?]

Now, laying off IT / ITES employees won’t be easy as the Karnataka government has given the nod for IT/ITES employees to setup trade union.

The labour commission of Karnataka has certified the formation of the Karnataka State IT/ITES Employees Union (KITU) under the Trade Union Act, 1926, and Karnataka Trade Unions Regulations, 1958.  The Karnataka IT union is backed by the Centre of Indian Trade Union, he said. CITU is an affiliate of the CPI(M). (via)

Given the number of layoffs that have happened in the IT industry and the worrisome future, thanks to AI and several tech advances, Indian IT industry is at a defining phase and several employees have earlier approached the government to ensure a cushion against layoffs.
It is expected that the top four Indian IT services companies may layoff 12,000-15,000 employees in the coming months.
Is trade union part of state government’s election agenda? Won’t it hurt Bangalore as a preferred destination for IT services firms?
