Sony Walkman turned 37 this month. Watch one of its first ever commercials from 1981

The Walkman was originally intended as a music sharing serive, however, upon its release in July 1979, unknown to Sony, a modern legend was born, selling millions of units. The metal-cased blue-and-silver device went on sale in Japan first for $150, before it was introduced in the US and the rest of the world.
