Startup Roundup: BillBaba, Flabbi, Tozoy, Craftila

Roundup of interesting startups (if you are a startup, submit your details here).

Currently there is no centralized system that takes care of all kinds of bill payments in India. Even if online payments are there, they are scattered all around. An average Indian consumer has to pay around 5 bills billbabaeach month and the effort and time wasted in offline payments is tremendous. Even the reminder system (for different providers) is not intact, and missing a bill payment is not a rare event. Other than that there are no financial tools for the common man which can organize things in a better manner, record spending habits and inculcate the habit of saving.

BillBaba aims to be a one stop shop for all bill payment needs in India. Currently you can set reminders (email, sms, facebook) for your bill payments, maintain your payment history and analyze your spendings. You can also create financial goals,  manage debts and money you have lent out, with automatic reminders. Feedback: The site is very well done and though SMS reminder has taken a hit, the good news is that Billbaba has implemented FB reminders which is a neat idea. The bigger question is: If this is a bill reminder service, why are you offering paid financial services etc? That is, such services will lead to dilution (of focus/offering).

Flabbi Innovations,a venture by IIT Kharagpur students is an online portal for sharing, developing and innovating everything in flash. It provides an easy user interface for developers to upload their creations where flabbithey will get rated by numerous users. It also brings you a wide collection of software, games and galleries. It basically aims to provide a common platform for flash and action script developers where they may showcase their skills.

Presently, there are very few sites where developers, especially the amateurs and the upcoming ones can get their work rated.Flabbi Innovations provides the developers a common platform to interact with each other and upload their creations where they can be rated and commented upon. It provides the developers an opportunity to grade themselves and improve upon their work. Feedback: Neat idea. Given that this is a student startup, they just mobilize the product among student community across the country (and keep in mind that there cannot be more than 1% creators in any marketplace – so find out what matters to rest of 99%).

Tozoy lets you rate your friends on their characteristics. You get to rate your friend’s individual characteristics anonymously, which lets your friend know about themselves.

Craftila is a collectibles and accessories brand that operates in both e-commerce and retail domain and offers over 500 products ranging from bags to home décor, pen drives to photo frames and greeting cards to mugs. With a number of exclusive options, Craftila’s customers will never have to settle for the same old boring items or run out of idea.

Craftila has showrooms in Udaipur and Bangalore, where customers can find attractive items for themselves and also have an option to gift it anywhere in India for no extra cost. Feedback: Frankly, bad UX. It doesn’t have to look like web1.0 ecommerce store.
