A look at 11 startups selected for Microsoft Accelerator for Windows Azure Program

Microsoft recently announced its accelerator for Windows Azure accelerator program that will enable the selected startups, access to all the resources of Microsoft’s BizSpark program and $60,000 in Azure credit through the Microsoft BizSpark Plus program. They will be able to leverage the possibilities enabled by an open and flexible cloud platform, the Metro user interface on Windows 8 and Windows Phone etc.

The startups that have been selected as part of the incubation program are AmplyfyMe (real-time TV guide), Caeruz Ventures (from the guys behind Rs100aday.com), CipherGraph (earlier profiled), CloudInfra, Gameizon, HireRabbit (social recruiting), NowFloats (LBS app that lets you know events/activities around a location), Plustxt Mobile Solutions Pvt. Ltd *, Sparsha (eLearning), Whitesharkk (interactive coding environment that is cross platform)& World Without Me.

The judges followed a simple guiding principle– they looked for business concepts which clearly indicated how the startups would leverage the flexible, scalable Cloud platform as part of the final offering. They chose applications that clearly communicated that the teams are building a business of scale that would attract venture or angel investment. Along with that, they looked for ideas that proposed products that solve real problems or create meaningful innovations. And they also focused on the capabilities and experience of the teams proposing those ideas.

* Plustxt is started by Pratyush, who is also part of Pluggd.in team.
