Sub-standard Chinese batteries could derail India’s EV vision

Chinese factories are reportedly dumping unused and low-quality EV batteries in India. These battery packs were manufactured by tier-2 companies for vehicles with short-range and less speed.

Since the Chinese Govt. has stopped subsidies on such vehicles, the demand of these batteries has reduced there. These companies see India as a perfect avenue to clear their unsold stock.

Earlier, low quality Chinese solar panels were being dumped in India but with redefined quality norms, this process has stopped. The Govt. is already in the process of setting up Giga factories to start battery production within the country.
