I still remember the day (in year 2005) in Bangalore when I had to circle around MG road to find a spot to park my car and after 2 failed circles I decided to park next to shopper's stop (old location, next to Garuda mall), and I was not the only one there were 3 more cars parked so I joined the herd. I was very surprised on return as I got my first parking ticket of my life and when I located where I need to go and pay for the fine, I could not find a spot there as well.
Fast forward Dec 2015 Nottingham UK, I decided to go to city center which I knew pretty well and park my car for 1 hr to do some quick shopping. When I reached the parking lot it got full just when I was about to enter. I was stranded there for good 30 mins and waited for someone to come out because barriers would not open if there is no empty space and I had no other way to reverse/return.
So while the technology moved a lot between 2005 and 2015, this problem was not solved completely. In this forum I am seeking inputs for other car drivers/readers to understand more as whats stopping people/car park operators/technologists to solve this problem completely. There are quite a lot of players trying to solve this problem in their own way but bottom line it is still not solved.
- Is the industry is too fragmented? and requires lot to resources to streamline this.
- Is market size not attractive enough for big players to jump in?
- who is rightly placed to solve this problem (car park operators/map (navigation) providers/car manufacturing companies/Tech companies (thinking out of the box))?
Disclosure: I am trying to solve the problem (in UK) via parkrobo and this is my first post on NBW
