The upcoming BigBillion Day (october 2nd - 6th) is going to be a defining one for Flipkart.
Not just from sales/revenue point of view, but it's going to be a show of strength for the company.
Against all the naysayers who have been writing theories on why Flipkart is overvalued et al (including Mr. Biyani)
Flipkart's BigMistakes @BigBillion Days
In 2014, Flipkart Billion Sales Data : 1 Billion Hits And $100mn GMV in 10 Hours. during the big billion days.
But here are some severe mistakes Flipkart made during the big billion days, which even forced the founders to apologize.
1. 503 Errors / Slow site
There were several glitches in the first few hours. Users were greeted with 503 erros and the site was quite slow during the first few hours.
Price of several products were increased, in order to show bigger discounted offers.
There were several such instances and chrome plugins like MakkhiChoose/CompareHatke turned out to be a saviour. Amazon did win this 'ethical' war / perception among the consumer's mind.
"We got six times more order than what we usually get, on the first day of the event. But on the second day we were surprised to see our orders fell to zero. This is when we realised that something is wrong "' (source)
There were several glitches in Flipkart's logistics / back end infrastructure and that left sellers fuming and eventually loss of business.
4. App-only ?
Continuing with its PR and coolness, Flipkart's big billion day went app-only last year.
That was some effing BS.
2014, 2015 was a PoC for Flipkart to show its scale.
And 2016 ? They better execute without any shit - the company has been losing the core / mind share among loyal customers owing to several reasons and this festive season is one huge opportunity for the new CEO (Binny) to show Fk's strength.
What's your take ? Will it be glitch-free? Or ..
For now, enjoy this!
