Parents said : GO to IITs because..well, everybody else was preparing for IITs.
So we started preparing for IITs. We didn’t ask ‘why / what ? which branch? Does mechanical / electrical engg interest me ? ‘
We just did it.
At IIT, we realised that we weren’t in love with engineering. We were doing it because..everybody else was doing it.
And because it was the coolest thing to do! There was no love for engineering.
Replace IITs with startups, parents with investors and engineering with market.
This is exactly what is happening with India’s startup ecosystem.
Startups are being launched for the love of valuation and not the market / the problem statement.
Because your parents..err..investor asked you to launch an AI product is why you are launching xxx.ai.
Welcome to Indian institute of startups, where dreams are manufactured and founders are created because a game is being played.
And not for the love of market or for the problem statement that they start off to fix. A startup is born because the TAM/opportunity size is huge enough for funding.
Frankly, very few dare to increase the pie.
