Will need full fledged Transition Design and plan.
Designing Regenerative Cultures is an important book in this regard.
There are several movements for transition towns, regenerative farming, solarpunk, permaculture and simpler way. There are also 'survivalism' movements.
In short term, India should just begin limiting use of fossil fuels, apart from vehicles and energy, this also includes biomass cookstoves, cooking gas.
Massive shift to renewable energy is becoming feasible. Also need to accelerate forestation and greening of cities. Instead of farms, combine agriforestry with farms. Instead of colonies, think as 'agrihoods'
India also has this game changing company Afforestt. They should be our biggest companies to counter climate change.
In the interim, buildings will have to be demolished or converted for better living. Think green walls, agritecture and green roofs. Rain and bio retention gardens in coastal regions.
Will also need to develop affordable cooling techs such as Electrochemical compression method instead of vapor compression for ACs.
Have been reading about thermoelectric, thermoacoustic cooling, heat blocking glass, magnetocaloric and magnetic field cooling, cooling membranes, phase change materials and metamaterials. Some are being actively researched and some startups formed. See skycool. But it should be affordable. It is a question of human survival.
