There are two ways to solve this Pyramid:
- First is the way, Greylock has sliced it. First grow engaged users, then retain users, later self-perpetuate them and so on.
- Second, but more valuable way of doing the product is by slicing the pyramid vertically. Build a feature that helps in growing engaged users, retain them and self-perpetuate.
In the first way, if you're building features to build the pyramid bottom up, your engaged users will be leaving you before you build the retained users bit.
In the second way, where every feature is thought in regards to this pyramid - you build smaller pyramids with each feature. All your features together should make the bigger pyramid - which gets you a Billion Dollar
