So this is what's happening in Manipur since the 26th of June.
The sole newspaper agency in the state has been forced to shut shop for a month by the Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA).
Apparently, the group is miffed with M/s PC Jain and Co, for stocking, displaying and selling copies of the Manipur General Knowledge written by R Gupta - a book banned by them.
The KSA claims that the "distorted book is fraught with factual mistakes and hurts the religious sentiment of the people. Lai Haraoba is the original religion of the Manipuris, but the book says that it is the dance of Shiva and Durga along with other gods and goddesses."
The KSA also took objection to the former CM Rishang Keishing being described as a "freedom fighter" in the book. Keishing was not a freedom fighter but a politician, KSA insists.
Although the agency and the publisher have apologised for the "mistake", the group says that the "punishment" stays.
I guess, it's about time, people forever switch to reading news online. What say?
