The new logo of Snapdeal prompted me to make my first purchase from Snapdeal today.
As I opened the site, it tells me
"India's Fastest Online Shopping Destination".
That intrigued me further.
I did not have any sensible need and was looking for something which can be proclaimed as a latent need, and used later. It also had to be cheap, as I was just testing the service.
I choose a Rs.279 worth Portronics Wireless Mouse and picked two of them, for my home and office m/c.
Sign-up is super easy, via OTP validation.
What I liked was:
Once I am done with my name, the page automatically shifts down to the position where address box is there.
They also, pick my City and State automatically from my Pin-Code, which they ask for in the very beginning.
They take money in advance from me, by telling me that I can save Rs.30 per unit, if I pay online. This is nifty and no one uses this I guess.
The payment experience is really much better than compared to rest of the two. It happened in a jiffy.
They upgraded me automatically to Snapdeal Gold. Which supposedly has next day delivery and extended return period, once I pre-paid online.
What I did not like:
It has been a while and there is no email/SMS from Snapdeal that they have received my order. The confirmation is on screen only ( please see the attached image).
There is no confirmation from Freecharge, that my payment has been received.
Freecharge sent me an email verification link, which I clicked but I got their error page. I tried the inline button of gmail, Google also said could not send message to Freecharge.
The curious thing is this under verification thing under the status column thing?
What are they trying to verify?
They have already verified my mobile number. I have pre-paid online.
While I am writing this post, took a screen-shot, edited it a bit, then I receive a SMS and email from Snapdeal, telling me that my order has been confirmed.
All this while, I am still logged into my account and curiously, I refresh my page. Now the status says, "processing".
So, once they confirmed the order, the status changed to processing. But what were they trying to verify earlier, for a while?
Logistics availability for next day shipping?
There is a huge DELTA here in customer experience, since all this verification stuff, happens post-payment.
The LAG in payment confirmation and order confirmation is huge, by all standards.
And this is just the beginning, since the real game starts from here.
This brings me to a very important question:
What do we mean by "Fastest Online Shopping Destination", is the site experience, or the entire holistic buying experience executed very swiftly?
I believe, its the later.
