There has been a lot of buzz around VR and the umpteen opportunities it holds.
In the last 1 month, I have met several startups attempting to solve VR in education space - primarily enabling students to experience classrooms using VR tech.
They are trying to solve 2 things:
1. Creating a new behaviour (of using VR kit and learning) which is a mammoth task.
In my opinion, this isn't going to work in the first version of VR wave. People aren't going to latch on to a new behaviour for the lack of motivation (in learning). Unless the headsets come really cheap (which they aren't), don't expect VR to gain mass appeal.
What will make VR popular?
I say, PORN.
The experience of porn over VR - at scale will get people to buy headsets and frankly, that's one big use-case for a pretty long time.
The porn industry has been known to drive futuristic tech and the same will happen for VR.
Education ? Healthcare ? Well, they will ride the wave but not create one.
What's your take?
